Old-world Shanghai glamour meets sultry boudoir at this modern, opium-den-like bar. Located at the edge of Melbourne’s Chinatown, New Gold Mountain is the city’s premier laneway hideaway. Its Liverpool Street exterior appears to be nothing out-of-the ordinary playing neighbour to a rather raucous Double Happiness. However, behind the cement wall and golden door lies an exquisitely designed interior that never fails to make an impression.

Winner of the RAIA Marion Mahony Award for Interior Architecture, New Gold Mountain caters to the timeless cocktail seeker, whilst always ensuring we are producing great drinks from spirits sourced around the globe. New Gold Mountain gets its name from the infamous gold rush of the early 1850s. In 1851, droves of those struck by "gold fever" fled their homes for mines in country Victoria to uncover golden nuggets that were rumoured to be hidden in the rock. "Gam Saan", or gold mountain, was the Chinese nickname given to America during its more recent gold rush and now Australia would be called the "new" gold mountain.
