The Old Hepburn Hotel has been a focal point of the Hepburn Springs community since the Gold Rush days of the 1850′ s. The current building was built in 1911 after two previous hotels on the site had burnt down between 1908 and 1911. It has had a few different names over the years: “Menz Hotel” (after the owners the Menz family) and The Old Racecourse Hotel (in reference to a nearby racecourse). The area was later renamed “Breakneck Gorge” when a jockey fell from his mount near the edge of the adjacent gorge, rolled down the hill and suffered a broken neck.

Also known as The Hepburn Hotel or The Old Hepburn Hotel, the hotel has had only three owners in the last 65 years. The Bakers, the Johns and now, the Dooley’s. With 32 years in the hotel industry, Amber and her family know what people want from their local pub; good food, friendly and comfortable surroundings, and a place where locals and visitors alike can enjoy a beverage, a good meal, exchange a story or 2 and soak up the relaxed atmosphere of an “authentic country pub.
