Sunday Assembly welcomes Peter West as our speaker for October. Peter will be guiding us on a journey through the human body and pondering one of life's big questions along the way: what makes you, you?

Peter is an applied physicist with a lifelong interest in robotics, bionics, and cybernetics brought on by a solid childhood diet of science fiction novels and Dr. Who. Disappointed that no Australian university was offering either Necromancy (there had been some Swords and Sorcery novels mixed in with the Sci-Fi) or Mad Science, he settled for medical physics as the next closest thing. He had a 30 year career at IPAustralia (the patent office) where he was at the "bleeding edge" of medical technology.

His particular field of interest and expertise was implant technology, that is, replacement body parts: hip joints, heart valves, cochlear implants etc. The other effect of the childhood diet of Sci-Fi has been a deep interest in the big ideas of science and society, and in what human beings are, and could be.

We hope you can join us: 10:45am for an 11am start. See you there!

It’s just upstairs at Richmond Library—there will be a sign out front on Church Street. Lift access is available via the sliding door at the end of the ramp. Please bring a plate of food to share over a cup of tea or coffee afterwards. Expect karaoke.
