The Island – Kanak Beach Village

For the first time ever, Circular Quay will be transformed into an Island beach village for 4 full days and nights.

Just like Parisians have experienced the “Paris Plage” (understand "Paris-Beach") phenomenon, popping-up along the banks of the river Seine, Sydney-siders are about to welcome a Kanak beach village on Circular Quay during the Bastille Festival. Set on the eastern side of the promenade, between the ferry terminal and the Opera House, this beach village is about to become Sydney new sensation. Sip on a coconut cocktail, bury your toes in the sand and watch fire twirlers making the show.

Inspired by the Kanak culture of the French New Caledonia Island, this beach village will see lots of sand transforming the Quay. Cocktail bar, Island food, music, umbrellas and beach chair to chill around the palm trees. Think island BBQ: prawns & pineapple skewers or roasted pork with coconut glaze. And if you’re thirsty a Kanak bar serving tropical rums with vanilla from Lifou, fresh coconut & pineapple cocktails—or even serving a curated selection of French rosés and sparkling wines. After all, New Caledonia is French. If you feel like entertaining yourself, they also have Coconut Pétanque - A unique take on the French game of pétanque, similar to Australian lawn bowls.
