'I Am Emilia Bassano' tells the tale of the ‘Dark Lady of Sonnets’, Emilia Bassano, a Jewish daughter of Moroccan descent who became one of the first published female poets.

Accompanied by her jester sidekick and best friend Touchstone, Emilia makes the outrageous claim that she is the author of Shakespeare’s plays. Is she?

From Australian playwright John Warszawski, this premiere season gifts Melbourne audiences a
moving, comedic 17th-century story and implants it into 2022.

Expect parody, belly laughs and tender moments as Emilia walks us through her life and why
unmasking the true writer of Shakespeare's masterpieces matters. I Am Emilia Bassano is a fresh
play loaded with song, humour and overflowing with heart.

Running in the main gallery of Justin Art House Museum as part of their Art & Gender exhibition,
'The Bassano Players' invite you to their debut performance and world premier of the incredibly
relevant 'I Am Emilia Bassano'.

'I Am Emilia Bassano' is playing at the Justin Art House Museum in Prahran between the 13th -
21st of August 2022. Tickets are between $28 - $45.

For more information or to book your tickets and unmask the truth visit the I Am Emilia Bassano website.
