On Thursday 7 July 2022 (during NAIDOC week), Sydney Legacy will pay homage to our Indigenous Servicemen and Women whose sacrifices have often been overlooked.

Notable Indigenous speakers will share words including Pastor Ray Minniecon, who was instrumental in establishing Redfern’s annual Coloured Diggers March. Warrant Officer Class One Colin Watego OAM, retired serviceman of 43 years who now works with youth-at-risk, will also be speaking.

Warren ‘Pig’ Morgan (an original band member of 1960s group The Aztecs) will perform his musical adaptation of this poem, with John Paul Young OAM singing lead vocals. They will be joined on harmonica by Mr Les Beckett, the nephew of Private West. It will be a moving performance in the 80th year since Private West died defending Australia on the Kokoda Track. There will also be a short film screening from Jemma Pigott’s documentary The Coloured Digger.

Tickets for Legacy in the Park are $55 each and include canapés and drinks.
