Winona, Robert Smith, Karen O, Kimbra for Frankenweenie soundtrack

Karen O (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Kimbra, Robert Smith (The Cure), Mark Foster (Foster The People) and Winona Ryder are just some of the artists contributing to the soundtrack of Tim Burton’s black comedy Frankenweenie Unleashed!

The album was written for the black-and-white remake of Burton’s own 1984 Disney animation Frankenweenie, a tale about a young boy who resurrects his dog.

Karen O, who scored 2009 film Where The Wild Things Are and covered Led Zeppelin’s 'Immigrant Song' for The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo soundtrack (scored by Trent Reznor), told Rolling Stone: “Tim [Burton] wanted an unconventional unconditional love song. My music inspiration came out of the same era of B movie fright film references sprinkled throughout the film… We ended up with a love song for the end of the film to the film! Frankenweenie is so special, it’s an unbelievable honour to be involved with it.”

While the tracklist even includes a duet with Grace Potter and The Flaming Lips and our very own Kimbra, the real gem in the contributors list comes from Winona Ryder. The actress has long been a well-known muse of Burton's since starring in his 1988 opus Beetlejuice. Not only does Ryder sing final track Praise Be New Holland, she also lends her voice to the film as Elsa Van Helsing.

The soundtrack’s release date is set for September 25 in the US, with the film opening on October 5.
