Illy - One for the Cities Tour
Illy released his fourth studio album ‘Cinematic’ in November 2013 and landed loud and proud at #4 on the ARIA Album chart; behind Eminem, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. The triple j feature album is the Melbourne artist’s first top 10 debut and the second highest first week sales by an Australian hip hop artist in 2013.
Just weeks later Illy won the ARIA Award for Best Urban Album 2013 for his Release ‘Bring It Back’ and has acquired a legion of new fans with his triple j like a version mega medley, covering Silverchair, Hilltop Hoods, Paul Kelly and Flume, the track has amassed over 400,000 YouTube viewers so far.
Illy first blasted his way onto the scene back in 2009 with the release of his debut album Long Story Short which featured hit single ‘Pictures’ (triple j Hottest 100 #66, 2010).
Sophomore album The Chase is the album that unleashed the powerful and well-loved singles ‘Cigarettes’ (triple j Hottest 100 #25, 2011), ‘The Chase’ and the ARIA Gold-selling ‘It Can Wait’ (triple j Hottest 100 #29, 2010). The album took him on two sold out headline tours, an endless list of festival bills and scored both ARIA and AIR Award nominations.
The follow-up to The Chase came in the form of Illy's 2012 offering Bring It Back. Described by the Melbourne based emcee as “a heart album”, the release was a passion project paying homage to the ever-growing Australian hip hop community. Reflective of the scene behind the genre, it was largely a collaborative album, including all manner of vocal and production guests. The album spawned the singles ‘Heard It All’ (triple j Hottest 100 #75, 2012) and ‘Where Ya Been’.
After two successful tours in support of Bring It Back and single On and On, Illy spared almost no time bunkering back down into the studio to begin work on Cinematic. Released on the 8th of November 2013 it is often referred to as Illy's most powerful offering yet and has cemented his name among the leaders in Australian hip hop.
Illy will be performing in Darwin, Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Adelaide.
