Established in 1873, the University Hotel is situated in the very heart of Lygon Street, at the Grattan Street intersection.

The Hotel has been a prominent landmark in the Carlton district and on its premises, many important and historical events have eventuated. After many lengthy discussions at the University Hotel in the late 1800's, a very famous football club was founded, this being the Carlton Football Club. Another point of notoriety the University Hotel is known for historically, is that it was in this hotel that three people were drinking one being a Miss Jean Lee, who was later charged with being an accessory to murder of a local resident in Dorrit Street. Miss Jean was the last woman hanged in Victoria.

The University Hotel pours a wide range of CUB beers on tap, in addition to featuring an extensive imported beer, wine and cocktail menu. Food is available all day from 12 noon with a varied menu to suit all tastes and dietary requirements.
