Theatre Works

Made possible with the support from Acland Street Village Business Association and the City of Port Phillip, Theatre Works invites you on a guided tour through ALTERNATIVE FUTURES: site-specific performances that reimagine St Kilda in the not-too-distant future.

Inspired by people, places and things on Acland Street, playwrights Bryan Andy, Laura Collins, Bumpy Favell, Emma Gibson, Vivian Nguyen and Kristen Smyth have penned six unique monologues that explore hope beyond a time of crisis and share their fantasy-filled predictions of what the future may hold; more cake shops, a plastic wonderland, an underwater city and the return of an ancient stream.

Curated and directed by Kitan Petkovski (The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven), audiences are taken on a scenic and sonic tour along Acland Street to encounter performances by Jennifer Vuletic (Because the Night), Caroline Lee (ABC’s The Newsreader), Tahlee Fereday (Blackie Blackie Brown, Because the Night), Kristen Smyth (The Gospel According to Jesus, Queen of Heaven), Bumpy Favell (King Victoria Drag Kings) and Sophie Muckart (Othello). The futuristic world is brought to life by an original score and sound design by Robert Downie, experienced through wireless headphones, with costumes and set pieces by Bethany J Fellows (Prayer Machine).

ALTERNATIVE FUTURES is a free of charge event, a gift from Theatre Works to say thank you to everyone who has supported us over the last 18 months and to welcome you back to our treasured community hub. Capacity per performance tour is strictly limited. Registrations are essential.
