This August sees the launch of an exciting new multi-year project from Sydney Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with Spanish pianist Javier Perianes.

Beginning with Beethoven’s Third Piano Concerto, Perianes, a musician renowned for his supreme grasp of Beethoven’s rich musical architecture, will perform all five of Beethoven’s Piano Concertos across a multi-season engagement.

Perianes’s international career has led him to perform in the most prestigious concert halls, collaborating with conductors and the world’s foremost orchestras. He was awarded the ‘National Music Prize’ in 2012 by the Ministry of Culture of Spain and named Artist of the Year at the 2019 International Classical Music Awards. In 2021, he was awarded the Granada Festival Medal of Honour in recognition of his long-standing relationship with the Festival, where he was also Artist in Residence for 2021.

Led by Sydney Symphony Orchestra Chief Conductor Simone Young, Javier Perianes performs Beethoven (10-13 August), will also feature Beethoven’s Eroica Symphony – a blazing, heroic work that’s a triumph of spirit and art – and renowned Australian composer Brett Dean’s Testament, a work drawing on Beethoven’s famed Heiligenstadt Testament of 1802 within which Beethoven confesses his inner turmoil caused by his encroaching deafness and the degree to which he felt misunderstood by those around him.
