The Altona Civic Centre building has been refitted with sustainable and collaborative design solutions. This has been achieved within the original footprint of the building by principal architect Sonja Duric from Group GSA.
Re-Designed to fit within its original footprint, the Hobsons Bay Civic Centre in Altona has been updated to match Council’s desire to remain sustainable and meet community needs. Integrating innovation and sustainability with historic features and locally sourced design solutions the building reflects Council’s goal to remain at the leading edge in its approach while maintaining heritage.
The municipal buildings at 115 Civic Parade were originally constructed for the then Altona Council, with the striking copper covered dome of the Chamber (built 1962-63) as its visual centrepiece and still a magnificent piece of design. Fast forward a few decades, the surrounding buildings were added in 1983, followed by the Altona Theatre in 1987. Extensions over the years have allowed the Civic Centre to meet the changing needs of organisation and community.
