Ashburton Primary School is a government education setting for 560 students from Prep to Year 6. It is located 12 kilometres East from Melbourne and has been providing public education since 1928. It is located in the Boroondara Local Government Area and is part of the North Eastern Region of Victoria of the Department of Education and Early Childhood.

An $8.3 million building redevelopment and refurbishment project under the Victorian School Plan and Economic Stimulus Package was completed in 2014. The school facilities include a full sized gymnasium, performing arts hall, performing arts studio, Japanese classroom, library, media and art studio. There are 24 classroom spaces in total across the school. There are three ‘Pods’ of four classrooms, which currently accommodate Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students. Two Mod 5 double portables totalling four classrooms.

The renovated main building has eight classrooms upstairs which currently houses the senior students. All classroom spaces are flexible and open plan. Team teaching is used consistently across the school and reflects the developmental needs of the children. The teaching and learning philosophy states that active learners are developed based on the premise that learning is a social process, learning needs to be relevant, purposeful and authentic, and we all learn differently and at different rates.

Administration areas include school office, first aid facilities, conference room, staff centre, storage areas and offices for leadership personnel.

Outdoor play spaces include a natural sandpit, dry creek bed, an oval, cricket pitch, synthetic grass, netball, basketball and four square hard courts, Junior and Senior agility play equipment, rotunda and passive shaded play areas.
