Since opening its doors in 1990, O’Connell’s has been at the forefront of pub gastronomy in Melbourne, blending a unique design and informality with award-winning food and service. Over the years, it has been home to some of the city’s well-known chefs including Greg Malouf, Cath Kalka and Adrian Richardson, who contributed to its success and reputation.

In creating the menu our team strive to produce innovative cuisine while remaining faithful our pub roots. Wine and beer are also a focus at O’Connell’s with the new list featuring over one hundred wines from Australia, NZ, France, Italy, Spain and Austria. In there bar, there are 10 craft beers on tap and a concise selection of wines by the glass.

Refurbished by renowned Melbourne Architects, Techne in 2012 all the key features of the original O’Connell’s have remained with an emphasis on enhancing these characters and balancing them with modern design elements.

We have reinvigorated the furniture and fittings, opened up the dining room to create a seamless, modern space and defined the bar area. The result is warm and inviting, and customers will feel right at home, whether it’s for a meal in the bistro, a casual drink or bite to eat in the bar, or for a special, private occasion.

Boasting relaxed stylish restaurant, elegant private dining rooms and fun, friendly bar and outdoor dining areas there is plenty of room whatever your dining preference. Located on the tree-lined corner of Coventry and Montague Streets, O’Connell’s seats 110 people in the dining room, 45 in the public bar and up to 40 in each of the four private dining rooms. There are also 32 seats in the spacious courtyard overlooking Coventry Street. O’Connell’s is open for lunch and dinner seven days.
