The textile and fashion hub project is a partnership between Kangan Institute, the Council of Textile and Fashion Industries (TFIA) and AusIndustry. Launched in 2012, the partnership aims to enhance the competitiveness of the textile industry through the provision of training programs that are specially designed in collaboration with industry, for industry.
Training is delivered at a new purpose-built facility at the Richmond campus that also serves as a central location for design-driven entrepreneurs to access resources, knowledge, capital, and experience.
At the facility, participants may access customised training designed for and by industry as well as make use of leading-edge equipment from a 3D body scanner to digital fabric and garment printers.
It also offers campus-wide wireless internet access and a digital infrastructure that links to key satellite manufacturing sites in Australia.
From its central location in Richmond, the facility is close to both Melbourne's fashion shopping strips and its textile and fashion zone in a move to connect designers, manufacturers and services in the industry.
